چکیده

In this paper an all-optical serial-to-parallel converter (SPC) based on the symmetric Mach-Zehnder (SMZ) interferometers operating at 80 Gb/s is presented. The proposed SPC is simulated and in particular its crosstalk (CXT) characteristics is investigated for a range of different system parameters such as signal and control pulse powers, delay time between the control pulses, and the main physical parameters of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). It is shown that CXT highly depends on the gain of the SMZ switching window and the difference in the gain profiles of SOAs in the gain recovery region. We show that there is a trade-off between the amount of CXT and the power level of the output signal. CXT of -20 dB is achieved at relatively low control power of ~20 mW.

High-speed All- Optical Time Division Multiplexed Node

In future high-speed self-routing photonic networks based on all-optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) it is highly desirable to carry out packet switching, clock recovery and demultplexing in the optical domain in order to avoid the bottleneck due to the optoelectronics conversion. In this paper we propose a self-routing OTDM node structure composed of an all-optical router and demultiplex...

Investigation of Control Pulse Power Effects on All-Optical SMZ Switch Performance

In this paper, the performance of an ultra-fast all-optical symmetric Mach Zehnder (SMZ) interferometer employed as a demultiplexer and/or a switch in an OTDM network is investigated by means of controlling the power of the control pulses. Employing control signals with optimum unequal powers results in reduced residual crosstalk, thus leading to improved bit error rate (BER) performance and re...

Crosstalk suppression in an all-optical symmetric Mach-Zehnder (SMZ) switch by using control pulses with unequal powers

Suppression of residual crosstalk is desired in switching a data channel from a multiple-channel frame in optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) network. Using the symmetric MachZehnder (SMZ) switch, it is a possible to obtain the desired data channel with relatively low residual crosstalk induced by the adjacent channels. In this paper we propose a simple and effective method to further sup...

Bit Error Rate Performance of All Optical Router Based on SMZ Switches

In this paper we investigate the noise and crosstalk characteristics of all optical router based on SMZ switch using a numerical model. Two effects, the relative intensity noise (RIN) and channel crosstalk (CXT) that degrade the bit error rate (BER) performance of the router are investigated. Numerical simulation results show that for BER of 10, the sensitivity of the receiver with all-optical ...

Designing an Integrated All-Optical Analog to Digital Converter

We present the procedure for designing a high speed and low power all-optical analog to digital converter (AO-ADC), by integrating InGaAsP semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) with InP based photonic crystal (PhC) drop filters. The self-phase modulation in the SOA can shift the frequency of the Gaussian input pulse. The two output PhC based drop filters are designed to appropriately code the f...
